Evening Standard: "West End hits jackpot in new year sales rush"

Link to Evening Standard

"A New Year’s Day sales rush has helped West End stores take more than £1 billion in the last six weeks.

"The number of people shopping in the area yesterday was up 31 per cent on last year, according to the New West End Company, which represents stores in Bond Street, Oxford Street and Regent Street.

"... But the British Retail Consortium warned a number of prominent chains could collapse after failing to make enough money over Christmas. Mandy Murphy from the BRC said:
"There will be some retailers for whom the sums don’t add up. It will be a challenge."
