Extra trams arrive in Croydon today: one Conservative Council that believes in public transport

Croydon Council
has developed and promoted an on-road tram system since 1986, under multiple political control.
Hammerson owns the Centrale shopping centre,
and its previous owners agreed to pay for an extra stop on the nearby tram line.

Barnet Council
largely ignores public transport. but for technical reasons, an off-road 'DLR'-type system, rather than trams, might be more appropriate in north London.
Hammerson jointly owns the Brent Cross shopping centre,
and has refused to consider light-rail at Brent Cross, unless proposers sign an undertaking they will not oppose Hammerson's planning applications there.
