Compulsory Purchase: Fears for pub’s future ‘unfounded’

Link to 'Yorkshire Evening Post'

"Developer Hammerson is planning to build a major shopping and leisure development either side of Eastgate. ... It has sparked fears among customers that the Templar, which is not listed, could be knocked down to make way for new uses.

"... Chris Jones, planning consultant for the scheme, said:
"There was no basis for the fears over the future of the Templar.

As was standard procedure for such a big development, the council had recently sent compulsory purchase letters to a number of landowners on the site, as part as part [sic] of the process for Hammerson to acquire the land it needed.

Those letters might have sparked concerns."

[Well, CPO's would, wouldn't they?!]
