'Croydon Today': "[Brent Cross Hammerson's] Croydon Alliance presents plans for open-air town centre"

"NEW plans for the redevelopment of the town centre would raise the roof of the Whitgift Centre – literally. Plans by Westfield's rivals, the Croydon Alliance, would involve shopping streets and squares, rather than massed covered malls.

"Lawrence Hutchings, Hammerson's managing director of UK retail, told the Advertiser:
"There will be more areas open than enclosed. The centre will feel less severe, as we go for streets and squares, not malls and courts."
