Evening Standard: "London 'needs billions more to cope with population boom'"

Link to Evening Standard

"London should get billions of pounds more of taxpayers’ money to help it cope with the population surge that has seen the number of residents hit 8.2 million, City Hall said today.

Kit Malthouse, the deputy mayor for business and enterprise, said the capital’s population — revealed in the 2011 Census — is far bigger than previously recognised by the Government.

The number of Londoners was 850,000 — 12 per cent — higher than in 2001. With an extra 112,700 under-fives, there would be faster increases in the future, he said."
